Part-Time CIO Services

My Part-time CIO service allows growing companies to afford visionary IT leadership without paying an executive-sized CIO salary. To inquire about part-time CIO services, please send me a message via my contact page or call me at 404.644.6798.

Part-Time CIO: How It Works

Part-time CIO services are tailored to the business goals of each company with which I work. In general, I follow a four step process:

  • Fact-finding. I begin by working closely with the CEO of the company to gain a deep understanding of the company's business goals and IT needs.
  • Evaluation and Analysis. I then evaluate the strengths and weakness of the company from an IT perspective, always relating the IT needs of the company to its business goals.
  • Plan. I draft a plan appropriate to the size and expected growth of the company. The plan usually includes prioritized tasks, timelines, deliverables, and budget.
  • Achieve. I then manage tasks to completion. (And in many cases I do the tasks myself, depending on project scale.)

A common scenario is to engage me as a part-time CIO for 1-2 days a week for 6 months, with a reduced work load afterward to keep things running smoothly. If company growth merits it, I help you transition to a full-time CIO.

Part-Time CIO: Some Practical Examples

Some of the practical tasks I address as Part-time CIO include:

  • Strategic planning. I can help develop a realistic IT growth plan that provides a solid base for a company's future.
  • Web marketing guidance, or Google-ization. For example, guidance in selecting Google search keywords, monitoring ranking by Google and regular maintenance of the web site as Google, inevitably, changes its ranking algorithms.
  • Business process improvement. For example, the integration of existing business data with data gleaned from new web-based e-commerce or web-based sign-up forms.
  • Data analysis. For example, to identify trends in product sales and consequently focus marketing efforts toward more profitable products.
  • Risk mitigation. I can help develop a disaster recovery plan and reasonably-scaled backup processes for important data.

Part-Time CIO: My Unique Perspective

Unlike many technology professionals, who focus on one technology or one particular database or software product, I am technology-independent. This means that as part-time CIO I am free to choose the best technology solution for each business with which I work. And many times that means whatever a company already owns.
